It’s Taurus Season! Let’s live it up. This is by no means a wild and crazy sign but they know how to enjoy what’s important in life. Read on the learn how to live your best life during Taurus Season.
What are the Dates of Taurus Season?
Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac. The Sun switches zodiac signs about every 30 days. It is in Taurus the Bull around April 20th-May 21st every year. Now that the Sun has left the sign of Aries, we have felt that first fiery spark and are enjoying the start of the warmer weather that is April and May. That quick assertive energy is over. Taurus is all about slow, grounded, and sensual energy.
What is the Mythology behind Taurus?
There are two popular Greek myths most associated with Taurus.
One myth is the story of the Cretan Bull. In this Greek myth, the god Poseidon gives a beautiful, white bull to the King of Crete so that it can be sacrificed in Poseidon’s name. In exchange, the King of Crete, Minos, will be graced with continued rulership of his kingdom. Minos finds the bull too beautiful to kill so he sacrifices a different bull instead. When Poseidon finds out he is PISSED. He seeks to punish Minos for his deceit.
So to punish Minos, Poseidon talked Aphrodhitite into cursing Minos’ wife, Pasiphae. (Doesn’t seem fair to her but that’s the Greek gods for ya.) This curse makes her fall in love with the bull. I guess the bull is into it because they have a child. The child is half human and half bull, creating your very first Minotaur. The Bull and Minotaur become very destructive. It gets so bad in Crete that Hercules is sent to capture the bull and put an end to the chaos. This story is included in The 12 Labors of Hercules.
The second myth is that of Europa. Europa was a Phoenician princess (and the mother of King Minos). According to the myth, Zeus was lusting after her and devised a plan to seduce her. He turned himself into a beautiful, tame, white bull and grazed in her father’s fields. Europa saw the gentle bull and wanted to pet it. She even went so far as to sit on it. Zeus took the opportunity and took off for the sea. With her on his back, he swam her to the island of Crete. He then transformed into his true self. She became the first Queen of Crete and had three sons with Zeus.
What are the Taurus Characteristics?
Taurus is an earth sign. It is a fixed sign. Venus is its ruler.
Earth energy is grounding and practical. Fixed energy is all about perseverance. It’s slow and patient and likes what it is familiar with. Venetian energy is sensual and about pleasure. Being the second house in the zodiac, Taurus is about resources and materials in one’s life. It represents what you value. Put it all together and what do you get? You get a dependable, patient, steadfast, sign that loves to bring pleasure to life. Whether it’s art, luxury brands, decedent food, or a lavish spa treatment, Taurus will put in the time and work hard so it can play hard and enjoy the pleasures life has to offer.
Taurus is all the beauty that you find in Spring. Imagine you are out for a walk on a spring day. Flowers are popping up all around you, the sun is shining. You just want to stop, take a deep calming breath, and admire the natural beauty all around. That is Taurus energy.
Ways to Live Taurus Season to the Fullest
Savor Luxury Foods like Taurus
Taurus is known for loving a good meal. They lean towards comfort foods, preferring their favorite dish over trying something new. They can be a little stuck in their ways.
During this time buy a nice bottle of wine for yourself or make a dish that you love but wouldn’t normally make at home. Buy a nice box of chocolates and eat it slowly over the month. Savor that shit!
Learn to find Value from Traditions like Taurus
Due to its fixed sign nature, Taurus is set in its ways. It has a hard time with change and getting out of its comfort zone. Because of this, Taurus values tradition. It appreciates the old ways of doing things and finds meaning in doing so. Taurus is represented by the tarot card The Hierophant. The book Tarot and Astrology: Enhance your Readings with the Wisdom of the Zodiac, says “Both Taurus and the Hierophant are committed to structures and propriety, along with creature comforts and objects of beauty that represent spiritual treasure”. Take some time to think about the traditions you were brought up with and why you do or don’t still follow them. Are there new traditions that you want to start? How can you bring your values into your everyday routines?
Dig Your Heels into an Unfinished Project like Taurus
Aires provided us with that get-up-and-go. It lit a spark that gave us the energy to start new things. Taurus is having us slow down and make a plan. We need to take a project we started and see it through until the end. Aries doesn’t usually think far enough ahead to have a plan but Taurus does. Focus on the aspects of your project that will take a lot of work or what needs plenty of time and requires patience. Taurus season lends us the resilience to finish what we started no matter the effort.
The projects I will be focusing on are projects I started around the home or any knitting projects that I have stashed away before finishing.
Sometimes being Stubborn like Taurus is a Good Thing!
Taurus always gets a bad rap for being bull-headed. They just can’t help it haha. Being that way all the time won’t get you very far. It will slow you down for sure when you aren’t willing to compromise. But sometimes that’s exactly what you need! When it comes to the most Taurian thing, your values, do not settle for less.
Look at your current situations and current relationships. Is there somewhere in your life that you were going to back down even though you don’t want to? Is backing down going to be bad for you in the long run or put your happiness in jeopardy? Reassess your choice. Right now Taurus will give you the power to stick to your guns even if it causes conflict.
Live Sensually like Taurus
I am not saying slink around in revealing clothes (unless of course, you want to). Instead, just spend the month living in a way that stimulates all five senses.
Like my first suggestion, eat good food and indulge your sense of taste.
Gratify your sense of hearing by playing your favorite music, playing mood music in the background, or just turning it all off and enjoying the peace and quiet.
Break out the incense, perfumes, candles, or whatever you use to add fragrance to your surroundings. Make your nose happy and indulge your sense of smell.
Surround yourself with what you find beautiful and satisfy your sense of sight. I find a clean home a beautiful sight but that’s only a suggestion. Paint a room or do something to beautify your home. Another very earthy suggestion is to watch a sunrise or hike to a waterfall. Enjoy the beautiful sights found in nature.
The last sense is the sense of touch. Grab your wine, put on your mood music, spitz on your perfume, head to your freshly cleaned bedroom, and grab a “friend”. Enjoy that feeling of touch. Or if that isn’t an option just find a soft blanket, wear a satin shirt, or have a cuddle session with your purring kitty. Bring in elements that you can touch, feel, and enjoy the sensation of.
It’s these little things in life that can bring us so much pleasure.
