Your Tarot Practice doesn’t have to be confined or limited to your home. Taking Tarot cards with you on a weekend getaway or a family vacation can actually deepen your practice and enhance your trip. In this post I will help you find the perfect travel tarot decks and show you how to make time for your tarot journaling practice while on the go.
Why take your Tarot Journaling Practice on the GO?
Whether you’re on a weekend retreat, traveling for work, or visiting family, taking your tarot journaling practice on your trip can turn your adventure into a deeply personal journey.
Journaling your reflections and insight while you travel will turn your hotel balcony into a sacred space, your morning coffee into a tranquil meditation session, and every sunrise a chance to pull a card.
When I travel anywhere more than one night, I take a tarot deck with me. Sometimes I don’t reach for it a single time I am away, but 90% of the time I do at least one reading. I wait for a time when I can be alone and it’s quiet, usually in the early morning or after dinner. It creates a special moment on that trip that I look back on fondly.
With a few tools and a little intention, your tarot journaling practice can go anywhere you want it to. Make your travel tarot practice as basic or elaborate as you want it to be. Keep it pared down to a deck and a journal or pack away crystals, incense, washi tape, stickers, and more. It’s really up to you and how much room you have to pack.

The Perfect Travel Tarot Decks
The only thing you absolutely need for your travel tarot practice is a tarot deck. I’ll give examples of what I would recommend, but please bring any deck you like or feel connected to.
I switch out the deck that I bring based on the time of year or what my favorite deck at the moment but 9 times out of 10 I bring a Tarot in a Tin!
Travel Tarot Decks: Tarot in a Tin
Nothing beats a Tarot in a Tin when it comes to a travel tarot deck. The tin is sturdy and will hold up to being tossed around in a suitcase, backpack, or bag far better than any cardboard box.
My go-to travel tarot deck is the Morgan-Greer Tarot in a tin. I love the energy of the deck from the zoomed-in scenes to the vibrant colors. It is also borderless and has a vintage feel since it was designed in 1979.
Here are some other options for you to consider.

Here is a picture of my typical travel tarot journaling kit. In this example, I pre-decorated a few pages of my B6 Stalogy 365 Notebook. This way, I have layouts to work with, but I don’t have to bring any extra supplies with me. I like to pack light.
In an Altoid tin, I added a lighter, a stick of palosanto, and a few crystals. This, along with my Tarot in a tin and Stalogy notebook, makes up my on-the-go tarot Travel Kit.
I light the Palo Santo before I pull my cards to help me get into a calm, peaceful mind space. Purchase an ethically sourced pack of Palo Santo here. The tin is also great because it serves as a firesafe surface on which you can set the Palo Santo down while it burns out and cools.
I like to keep small crystals in my travel tarot kit to help enhance certain energies for my readings. You can find a crystal set that contains multiple crystals, allowing you to swap them out as needed. Check out this crystal set for Divination.

Other supplies you can add to your journaling practice and are very portable are stickers, washi tape, colorful pens, and highlighters.
There is a variety of styles, colors, and sizes of stickers and washi. I like to use stickers of tarot cards. That way, I can show the card(s) I pulled and what inspired my journal entry.
Washi adds fun designs and pops of color to a blank page. It’s easy to take with you on the go and is simple to use.

I also like to use rubber stamps that depict each tarot card. They can be used over and over again and can create a sleek, minimalist page detail.

Whatever you decide to bring with you on your trip, it can all fit in this sturdy and cute Delfonics Utility Pouch! It has ample pockets and slots for all your journaling supplies. It comes in multiple sizes and colors. I love mine so much, I bought a second one to fit in my purse.
I hope I helped you discover that you can easily take your Tarot practice on the road wherever you go. Continuing your practice in new locations can add meaning to your trip and allow you to keep up with your journaling. All you need is your trusty travel tarot decks, travel journal, and your custom travel tarot kit.
